Lisa Heikka-Huber, also known as Lisa's Pieces, embarked on her glass journey in 1998 at Shasta College in Northern California. Transitioning to full-time lampworking of borosilicate glass in 1999, she founded her studio, named Amorphous Glass, later rebranded as Lisa's Pieces Glass in 2000. Hailing from North Hollywood, CA, Lisa's artistic roots run deep, nurtured by her parents, both accomplished sculptors.
In 2006, she refined her skills through a week-long intensive class with the renowned glass artist Banjo, elevating her sculpting ability. This culminated in her triumph at the inaugural Female Flame Off in 2007 in Chicago, where she clinched first place in functional sculpture and wearable art categories with her captivating giraffe pieces. This experience fueled her passion for crafting hollow animal forms in functional glass.
Over the past two decades, Lisa's creations have graced galleries and shops in over 40 states across the US and Canada. Evolving from production glass to crafting unique pipe art sculptures, her innovative works secured her a coveted spot in the 2016 National Liberty Museum Exhibition, marking a milestone as the first museum showcase of pipe art in the US. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with several glass artists, including Danielle Weiboldt, Dellene Peralta, Matt Robertson, and SALT, among many others.
Sculpting is deeply rooted in Lisa's family heritage, tracing back to her grandfather Earl Heikka, a distinguished Western Art sculptor, and her great-grandfather, an Indigenous Sami from Inari, Finland. Lisa's artistic focus centers on sculpting hollow-blown glass horses, female forms, reindeer, and amanita mushrooms all tributes to her heritage. Experimentation with functional, mixed media, and kinetic sculpting techniques to imbue her creations with a sense of dynamic realism. Operating from her tranquil studio in Arcata, CA, she continues to push the boundaries of her glass art.
With 26 years of glass experience, Lisa is pursuing her MFA in Art and Art History at San Jose State University in Spatial Arts focusing on glass and metals. Lisa holds a BFA in sculpture and small metals, a BA in political science focused on water policy, a minor in art history, and a minor in scientific diving from Cal Poly Humboldt. She is concurrently working towards her MA in Social Sciences at Cal Poly Humboldt’s Environment and Community graduate program. Occasionally, Lisa offers private studio classes, intermediate sculpting workshops, and one-on-one lessons in her private studio. For inquiries, contact her via email.
